Parenting Workshops
and Kabbala Classes
Now taking place at chabad. 9:15 - 10:30. session 2 is starting on Jan 18th.
Dearest Friend,
We hope you and your family are doing well and have truly enjoyed your holidays. Due to popular demand we have planned a double header of “Parenting with Torah” classes beginning this fall . There will be three sessions, the first beginning on Wednesday, October 26th. The first 45 minutes will be a parenting workshop, the second 45 minutes will be a women's Kabbala class based on the weekly Torah portion beginning with Bereshit.
The parenting workshop classes are based on three Jewish books. Each book is full of wisdom from the Torah and provides insight on how to balance our lives while raising children in the Jewish tradition. Each class will discuss assigned chapters of the books concluding with some of the famous authors treating us to a personal lecture.
The location of the class will be Garelick & Herbs on 48 West Putnam Avenue in Greenwich:
9:15-9:30 Coffee and socialize
9:30-10:15 Parenting workshop
10:15-11:00 Kabbala for Women
The first session is based on the book 'Blessings of a Skinned Knee' by Wendy Mogel. With warmth and humor she distills the wisdom of the Torah, the Talmud and important Jewish teachings as well as contemporary psychological insights into nine 'blessings' that address key parenting issues.
The second session is based on the book 'Towards a Meaningful Life' by Simon Jacobson. Rabbi Jacobson heads 'The Meaningful Life Center' presenting the teachings of Torah to people of all backgrounds in accessible and relevant language, enabling them to lead more meaningful lives. His best-selling book 'Toward a Meaningful' Life has sold over 300,000 copies to date. Written in concise, down to earth language he relates Torah in a straightforward, practical manner applicable to the life of every man and woman concerned about the meaning of existence and how to apply that meaning to everyday life, in addition he offers answers to all the questions our children ask.
The final session is based on the book 'How to talk so kids will listen'. It is co authored by Elaine Mazlish. She has appeared on every major talk show from 'Good Morning America' to 'Oprah'. 'How To Talk So Kids Will Listen & Listen So Kids Will Talk' has sold almost two million copies. Based upon the many workshops she ran for parents and teens Elaine presents key communication strategies. Packed with true stories, typical scenarios, instructive comic strips, and reminder pages that highlight the ideas in each chapter, the book demonstrates the communication skills that will give you the know-how you need to enjoy a mutually respectful relationship with your son or daughter.
